Project Overview

Indoor kites are devices used to glide through the air while controlled by strings tethered to their frames. The goal of this project is to develop a kite design that mimics the body structure of a manta ray and is able to glide long distances while being towed by a tether line. Aerodynamics, structural design, construction, and maintenance will be learning objectives explored through this design process, and most technical challenges of this project will be in these areas. Proper development of a frame to support the kite and a skin to withstand the stresses will be a major task associated with the kite’s design. The final outcome of this project will be kite that is durable, lightweight, cheap, and effective in gliding long distances.
